: On motion of Regent Roy, seconded by Regent Levy, the Board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee to grant conditional approval for the proposed Stephenson Disaster Management Institute at Louisiana State University and A&M College for a period of one year, effective immediately. As required by Board of Regents Academic Affairs Guidelines: Proposed New Centers, Institutes, and Other Academic/Research Units, LSU shall submit to the Commissioner of Higher Education a proposal for full approval of this center by May 1, 2008. If this proposal is not forthcoming by this date, the Board of Regents shall re-examine the need for this Institute.

2008/08/27: The Board of Regents granted approval for the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute (SDMI) at Louisiana State University and A&M College through June 30, 2012, subject to the following stipulations: 1. By August 1, 2009, the University shall submit a progress report to the Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs detailing faculty appointments affiliated with the Institute; and 2. By June 30, 2010, a second progress report detailing external funding to afford Institute operations shall be due to the Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs. Lastly, a request for reauthorization of Institute status shall be due to the Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs by June 30, 2012. Should this request not be received by this date, the Board of Regents shall re-examine the need for this Institute. 2009/08/27: The Board of Regents received the June 2009 progress report relative to staffing of the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute (SDMI) at Louisiana State University and A&M College. Per Regents action of August 2008, further reports addressing other aspects of the Institute shall be due as previously directed. By June 30, 2010, a second progress report detailing external funding to afford Institute operations shall be due to the Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs. The June 2010 progress report was accepted by the Board of Regents. Lastly, a request for reauthorization of Institute status shall be due to the Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs by June 30, 2012. Should this request not be received by this date, the Board of Regents shall re-examine the need for this Institute. 2012/08/22: The Board of Regents granted full approval to the Institute for a period of five years. A request for reauthorization shall be due by June 30, 2017. 06.21.17: The BoR granted grant full approval for the Stephenson Disaster Management Institute at LSU A&M. A report and request for reauthorization will be due on 1 July 2022; 3/14/2023 - Staff approved continued authorization through 4/1/2028.
